National Parks

UK National Parks are listed below. Visitors are generally free to roam them, but should always bear in mind that people live and work in them and that animals graze in them. The National Parks are protected areas of outstanding natural beauty, a mixture of coastal, mountain, moorland, meadow, wetland and woods. They cover an area of 21,932 square km. The first National Parks were designated in 1951 and the most recent, The New Forest, in 2005. Each area is looked after by The National Parks Authority who are responsible for their conservation, must seek to nurture their social and economic well-being and promote their qualities to the general public.
